Anomic aphasia is a mild form of fluent aphasia where the person can understand other’s speech and can usually read. People with anomic aphasia can’t find the words they want to use even though they know what the object is and what it may be used for. This is particularly true when trying to use the correct noun or verb. The person can get around the missing words using vague fillers like “stuff,” “thing,” or terms similar to the noun they want to use. You may see the same difficulties in finding the right word in their writing.
