Aphasia Outreach

Aphasia Outreach: Connecting Communities and Creating Change

Outreach is a powerful tool for bridging the gap between organizations and their communities. At its core, outreach is about connection. It’s a concerted effort to reach out to individuals and groups, understand their needs, and provide support. Outreach initiatives are pivotal in fostering relationships, building teamwork, and enhancing visibility for causes and organizations.

Aphasia Community Center, Inc. outreach members and volunteers, Hank Prince, Rick Reese, Tom Boyle, Becky Reese, and Dr. Donna Polelle shared compelling personal stories and information about aphasia at recent local aphasia outreach events. These events increased public knowledge about aphasia, shared resources, and rallied support for individuals and families affected by it. Four outreach events occurred between February and May 2024.

In addition to these speaking engagements, the Aphasia Community Center, Inc. has another aphasia outreach program called the Aphasia Peer Mentor Program. Our Peer Mentors, Rick and Becky Reese, and Tom and Erika Boyle, work with newly diagnosed people with aphasia and their family members at the Sarasota Memorial Hospital (SMH) Rehabilitation Pavilion. Their goal is to spread awareness about aphasia and give support to persons newly impacted by aphasia.

The ACC members and leadership team regularly perform speaking engagements and peer mentoring outreach activities. They have a passion to teach our local community about aphasia and the outstanding resources available to them through the ACC.

In a world where digital communication often takes precedence, the human touch of outreach reminds us of the importance of face-to-face interactions and the power of community. It reminds us that, at the end of the day, we’re all in this together, striving for a better, more connected world. So, let’s embrace aphasia outreach and the countless opportunities it presents for making a difference, one person, one community at a time.

If you want the Aphasia Community Center, Inc. to present to your organization, please email or call us at 941-500-4748.
